Wes Wilson: Basic Human Decency

Basic human decency should never be considered a fault. Compassion and safe-harbor for those who have been unfairly harmed is not weakness. Allowing our neighbors to starve or die from preventable illness is not Christian. Collective action is not inherently malevolent. Awareness of racism does not create it. Speaking with respect in public spaces not anti-American. Loss of privilege is not oppression. Freedom of religion is a two-way street. Patriotism is morally bankrupt without benevolent ideology guiding your nation. Nationalism is little more than prehistoric tribalism with bigger spears and rocks.

If you cannot put yourself in someone else's shoes for a moment, I cannot communicate with you. If you cannot see your own flaws in the historic failures of those who came before you, then you are fundamentally broken. We are not unique in the continuum of societal evolution. We've been here before and need to learn, not balk.
