Chris Hedges Comes to Portland May 26th and May 27th

I am not sure how many times I have seen Chris Hedges speak over the years or how many of his books I have read. I just know that I am deeply grateful for Chris and for all those who gift us with their truth-telling and courage, wisdom and integrity, consciousness and caring, and fierce work to heal our nation and world. I am so grateful to soon see him speak again. His work is such a gift to us all.

Chris Hedges will be speaking at the Aladdin Theater in Portland on Friday, May 26th at 7pm. This is what is written about this event:
Stop Fascism: Chris Hedges Speaks in Portland
A benefit for KBOO Community Radio. Chris Hedges examines the mechanisms for resistance given the absence of any authentic democratic institutions and the rapid militarization of the state.

Are you outraged yet? Since the November general election, human rights have been under attack and our communities of color are the first targets. Corporations have further infiltrated government to divert federal dollars into the pockets of a few. Paramilitary forces like ICE, radical right pundits, and hate groups have reinforced systems of division and control.

The US has a long history of white supremacy and disparity — and recently, more people have been uprooted from our imaginary past of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans.

KBOO Community Radio is proud to host Chris Hedges in a provocative look at the current state of revolt in the United States. Hedges will recount the US’s continuing history of domestic terrorism while outlining ways for communities to resist before it’s too late.

Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, Princeton University professor, author, and activist, as well as a columnist for the news and commentary website Truthdig. He also hosts a weekly interview show called ‘On Contact,’ which airs “dissident voices” currently missing from the mainstream media. He has written 11 books, including “Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt,” (2015) and the New York Times bestseller “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt” (2012), which he co-authored with Portland-based comics journalist Joe Sacco.

This event is a benefit for KBOO Community Radio, and all proceeds go to one of the region’s longest running independent media outlets. We serve communities through our free broadcast training programs — including the Youth Collective: a youth mentorship program, media co-sponsorships for grassroots groups, local citizen-produced news, live in-studio music program, remote broadcasts from community events, and more.

Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco will also be speaking at the Aladdin on Saturday, May 27th at 2pm. This is the summary for this event:

Stop Fascism: Chris Hedges & Joe Sacco Talk About Resistance. A benefit for KBOO Community Radio.
Pulitzer Prize–winner Chris Hedges and Portland-based award-winning cartoonist and journalist Joe Sacco set out to take a look at the sacrifice zones — areas in America that have been offered up for exploitation in the name of profit, progress, and technological advancement. The story of that journey became the book “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt”, a critically-acclaimed union of graphic novel and searing indictment of global capitalism’s effect in places like Camden, New Jersey; West Virginia; Pine Ridge, North Dakota; Immokalee, Florida; and New York.

The portrait of misery, painted from post-industrial America and published in 2014, has not changed. Or has it? And how?

Join Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco as they discuss the mechanisms for resistance that exist and explore the current state of revolt in the United States.

KBOO Community Radio is proud to host this important discussion. This exclusive, one time only event is a benefit for KBOO Community Radio, and all proceeds go to one of the region’s longest running independent media outlets.
