Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.

Would you become a pilgrim on the road of love? 

The first condition is that you make yourself 

 humble as dust and ashes.

Set your life on fire. 

Seek those who fan your flames.

*** 

 

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely 

to seek and find all the barriers within yourself 

that you have built against it.

What? Are you still pretending you are 

separate from the Beloved?

*** 

Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, 

worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter. 

Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even 

if you have broken your vows a thousand times. 

Come, yet again, come, come.

Seek the wisdom that will untie your knot. 

Seek the path that demands your whole being.

 

*** 

 

It is certain that an atom of goodness on 

the path of faith is never lost.

Be certain that in the religion of 

Love there are no believers and unbelievers. 

LOVE embraces all. 

*** 

In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, 

how to make poems. You dance inside my

chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes 

I do, and that sight becomes this art.

Everyone has been made for some particular work, 

and the desire for that work has been 

put in every heart.

*** 

Everything in the universe is within you. 

Ask all from yourself.

Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull 

of that which you truly love.

***

Love is the bridge between you and everything. 

*** 

When you seek love with all your heart you 

shall find its echo in the universe. 

***

Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love. 

*** 

The whole universe is contained within 

a single human being – you.

*** 

You are not a drop in the ocean. 

You are the entire ocean, in a drop.

Your heart is the size of an ocean. 

Go find yourself in its hidden depths.
