Fran Korten: This Is Our Job Now

Okay, here's my take on the passage of the Big Bad (read horrendous) Bill today. It will be the death knell of the Republican party as we know it today.

Yesterday a rural clinic in Curtis Nebraska closed, due to anticipated cuts in Medicaid from this bill. It is the first of many. Millions will lose their Medicaid coverage and SNAP food benefits.

Now it is OUR job to make sure that every community that loses its rural clinic knows exactly why that clinic closed. That the friends and relatives of every person who loses Medicaid or SNAP knows exactly why the person lost that support. That every community that has to host a cruel detention center knows why they are afflicted with such a demeaning institution. That every person who cares about climate change (which actually is most of us) knows why EV sales are declining.

That's OUR job -- letters to the editor, FB, TikTok, Instagram, call ins to radio shows, notes to friends, EVERY possible way. We have our work cut out for us. But we must make sure this is the end of the Republican Party as we know it today and we seize this time as one for rebuilding our country based on our values of care for each other and the Earth.
