EXCELLENT — Cristina Breshears: Portland Has Just Done Something Rare and Luminous

Weeping. So powerful. I love and say YES to luminous, to embracing circles of caring that exclude no one, and to embodying wholeheartedness and standing in fierce love. Deepest bow of gratitude to Christina Breshears, to Portland's City Council and our beloved beautiful city, and to all who are standing in solidarity for a nation and a world which is just and cares for all. 🙏💜Molly

Portland has just done something rare and luminous: turned moral conviction into civic law. Last night, Portland’s City Council cast a unanimous vote to pass the Protect Portland Initiative and to codify our Sanctuary City status into city code.
This vote isn’t symbolic, it’s structural. It strengthens our legal protections for immigrant and refugee communities, establishes clear guidelines for how the city will respond to federal overreach, and sends a message that our values are not negotiable.
In a time when the Supreme Court is dismantling the Civil Rights protections that generations fought and bled to secure, Portland has chosen another path. We are standing firm on hallowed ground: the ground of empathy, justice, and shared humanity.
This city, with all its wildness, wackiness, and warmth, understands that sanctuary is not an act of defiance; it is an act of fidelity to the best of who we are and to the people who make Portland whole.
Thank you to Lisa Wolf for bringing my attention to last night's meeting and for nudging me to make testimony. No kings. No tyrants. Just people showing up, protecting one another, and building sanctuary that lasts.
