80-year-old Vietnam-era veteran Richard Hobcraft Allan III locked himself to a sign post outside the White House Monday morning to protest cuts to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. "King Trump and Pres Musk are killing veterans" was written on a pipe he attached his hands together inside of. Police spoke to him on a few occasions to assess the situation. "I've been told that some of you guys are real humane," Allan told an MPD officer who spoke to him. "We try to be," the officer replied. "If you could slip over here with just a little shot of bourbon-" Allan asked, prompting a laugh. Police ultimately appeared to just let Allan stand there attached to a sign post. "My intention had been to be here until I was broken out of here and arrested and I was proud to face arrest in the name of my fellow veterans" he explained, but would ultimately have to get himself out. He calls the demonstration an appetizer for an upcoming Veterans' March against Trump on Friday. Filmed by Ford Fischer
