Solidarity Is the Only Path We Have Left

I am so grateful for my friends like Aly Wane and his long-term activism, profound commitment to truth, and passionate devotion to social justice, compassion, and caring for all of life. — Molly

Bit of rambling this morning....
I became a Leftist in the 90's because I could already see that we were living in an unsustainable version of global capitalism that would eventually lead to our collective downfall.
The crises have only intensified and worsened.
I'm mentioning this now because I really think that it is important for Leftists to see the big picture and not confine their analysis to the United States. This fight against Trump is (unfortunately), just a small skirmish in the war against global fascism. Many countries are turning to the Far Right.
This is the result of the failures of neoliberal capitalism and the oligarchs know it, which is why they are consolidating and aligning themselves with fascist leaders all over the world.
This is where the immigration conversation is so important. As leaders struggle to explain the gap between their assurances that "we live in the best system possible" and the evident socioeconomic failures of their countries (with rising inequality creating increasingly large zones of mass poverty), they will scapegoat immigrants, especially immigrants of color.
These very immigrants of color will increasingly seek refuge in Global North countries as the climate change catastrophe wrecks their ability to live in their native homes. This influx of migrants then becomes the excuse leaders use to justify the capitalist failures we see all around us. Instead of strengthening social safety nets, they will do the easy thing and claim (without evidence needed) that migrants are the reason why citizens struggle with food, housing, healthcare, etc...This will in turn whip up a frenzy of white nationalism in the Global North and the cycle will repeat.
These are the stakes.
We are not simply facing having to "deal with Trump." Trump won't be here forever and this fascist momentum does not need him anymore.
Our focus needs to be on global justice, which is why defending migrants is so crucial in this struggle. As US citizens are finding out, what is visited on migrants is eventually visited on citizens. Migrants have always been the sociological canaries in the coal mine. What happens to them will eventually happen to all if we let it.
Solidarity is the only path we have left at this point if we want to avoid widening catastrophes.
Bottom line is: the planet couldn’t care less about our petty squabbles. If we don’t learn to share the globe’s resources, we will go the way of the Dodo.
