I sit writing this while listening to the ice storm outside my home...
While most of the country — including those of us here in the Pacific Northwest — are in the midst of frigid winter storms, it is vital to understand what we’re experiencing and its relationship to the human caused warming of our planet. Everywhere we are witness to the catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis.
There is just one thread woven through all of the radical changes to our climate and all that we now recognize is no longer unprecedented, but is in actuality the frightening new norm. It is hard to go through one day without hearing about fierce winter storms or searing summer heat, catastrophic wildfires and floods and droughts, devastating tornadoes and hurricanes and typhons, Antarctica's Thwaites "doomsday glacier" and other glaciers losing ice at terrifying rates, thousands and millions of climate refugees driven from their homes, starvation and deaths and extinctions, and on and on and on....
And now here we see the relationship between melting glaciers and a weakening jet stream which is impacting radical changes to our climate. It is indeed all connected to the ongoing burning of fossil fuels and the poisoning of the Earth and our atmosphere. And because everything is interrelated, our human actions and addictions to fossil fuels, to war, to power and greed now have us in a death spiral. We radically change our ways or risk the well-being and the very lives of everything, absolutely everything, that we love and cherish.
Ignorance and illusion, separation and disassociation, apathy and inaction, disinformation and denial, propaganda and polarization, dehumanization and othering, late stage greed and poisonous corporate funded politicians and mainstream media all must be seen for what it is and dismantled within ourselves and the belief systems and policies and people we support and turn to in positions of power.
There is an utter urgency that we inform ourselves and truly come to know in our deepest selves what is happening and what is at risk — all of which will inspire us to courageously and fiercely act in whatever way we possibly can to save ourselves and hopefully ensure a habitable planet for our children and grandchildren and all of the children of all of the species everywhere.
Bless us all... 🙏 Molly
