Some Thoughts On a Larger Picture Beyond Trump and the Horrors of Today

The January 6th Committee hearings, the FBI search warrant on Mar-a-Lago, the endless toxic lies, the ongoing threats of violence by Trump's supporters, and everything revolving around the former president drives home again and again and again that this man is beyond any doubt whatsoever a criminal psychopathic narcissist who has always been an extreme danger to everyone around him, our nation, and beyond. The intensity and depth of narcissistic revenge and rage, entitlement and grandiosity, delusion and disconnect from reality cannot be overstated.

One must also always remember that the narcissist is completely compelled to project his/her self-loathing outward.

That said, it is equally important to remember that the encroachment of authoritarianism and fascism in our nation is much bigger than one man. Trump did not emerge out of a vacuum. He and his followers are a symptom of the shadow side of our country and all of its unaddressed shadow rooted in racism and white supremacy, patriarchy and misogyny, and a dark history that has never been collectively acknowledged, addressed, healed, and transformed.

The past continues to live on in the present as long as it is not embraced, seen, and owned. Neglecting this long needed process of accountability, truth and reconciliation, and opportunity to evolve as a human species has cost us dearly. May more and more of us root into paths of awakening. May courage, truth, healing, and love prevail.
