As Ron reflected to me after they left, “What an honor and joy to have Ahadi and Maiwand visit us today.” And it truly was.
What deep, intimate, sweet conversations we were privileged to enjoy with our newest Afghan friends. These two young men have such beautiful hearts and wise souls. We shared heartfelt stories and thoughts about loss and beauty and Rumi and the sweetness of smiles and love. And so much more.
There are many places within our country and Afghanistan and around the world where misogyny and machismo and patriarchy have spread, disconnecting us from ourselves and each other. Today’s heart-to-heart between the four of us was the opposite of that.
It didn’t matter that we’re new friends or that we’ve shared different cultural and life experiences. Speaking the language of our hearts cuts right through that and again and again illuminates that we are all family — and that the energy which connects us all is Love.
Ahadi and Maiwand were also so sweet to bring Ron a beautiful get-well-soon bouquet of flowers. Thank you! And this gift reminded Ron of flowers he and his dear friend Rob were bringing to a friend they were visiting when they were in Afghanistan decades ago. I’ve also included this wonderful photograph of Ron in Kabul in 1979.
In the midst of it all, there are these sweet, sweet gifts and blessings. For which we are so grateful. Love is always the greatest medicine. 💗🙏 Molly
