These are glimpses from one of several May Day protests in Portland, Oregon. I went solo as my husband wasn’t able to make it this time. This was also my 4th protest in just a few weeks… actually my 5th because the town hall in Vancouver for Democratic Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez also turned out to be a protest 500 strong. And, no matter the outcome, it feels so important to keep showing up!
The images that I share here from the Portland protest on May 1st are just a tiny glimpse into the many issues which are hurting people's hearts and of such profound concern. Stepping back, we can witness an interconnection between each and every act of injustice, dehumanization, trauma, and violence being perpetrated by the Trump regime — and administrations going back far beyond this one — on human beings and all life near and far.
And it is deeply important to remember how it is that we are all related, all family, all connected. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." — Martin Luther King, Jr.
In so many ways, I am increasingly encouraged as our momentum builds and builds in the Pacific Northwest, across the nation, and worldwide! It is incredibly exhilarating, inspiring, empowering, and a gift to be joined in solidarity with such a diversity of caring human beings of all ages and backgrounds who are turning out demanding an end to this nightmare — the brutality, genocide, kidnapping, terrorism, criminality, oligarchy, injustice, racism, fascism, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, violence, dehumanization, and the narcissistic total disregard for and assaults on the Constitution, the rule of law, human rights, and life on Earth that permeates the current administration.
We truly are in this together. And any action taken to alleviate the suffering, oppression, injustice, trauma, and violence that any of us experience matters. Deeply. May the momentum to birth a more caring, just, sustainable, and peaceful world continue to grow and grow!!
All this said, it is also very true that no one knows how everything will turn out over time. I am not in denial that things look very bleak. Regardless, we need to keep showing up. We need to do the right thing. We need to do so for our children and grandchildren and all of the children of all of the species everywhere.
We are the ancestors who will be held to account by today's and all future generations. May they know that we did everything that we possibly could to courageously and passionately act on the behalf of the highest good for all. And may we always remember that Love is the most powerful medicine of all.
