David Sirota: Working Class Will Be “Deeply Harmed” by Biden’s “Big Win” on Debt Ceiling

This is a hard one to listen to, but essential for us to know. It is hard, and it truly sickens and profoundly disturbs me, because Biden and the core neoliberal democrats in power, absolutely sold their souls to the devil. This "big win" is so unnecessary and incredibly dark and one could say evil in its consequences. They didn't have to play with the devil, they didn't have to capitulate and enable, they could have stood up fiercely against the interests of the fossil fuel industry, the military industrial complex, Wall Street, and the late stage greed of the most obscenely wealthy. But no. The democrats who have long been enmeshed with the patriarchal, neoliberal, late stage predatory capitalist system do what they have been doing for decades  standing against the vital needs of the poor and our nation and other nations and the planet. I am so freaking angry and outraged! I'm so profoundly frustrated and angry that our voting choices for the most powerful positions in our government all too often come down to choosing between a neoliberal or a fascist. I am angry about this!

And I'm so incredibly grateful for those like David Sirota and Amy Goodman and all who have long embodied a profound commitment to truth and integrity and to acting on behalf of a highest good for us all. — Molly

President Joe Biden on Saturday signed a debt ceiling deal into law that averts a catastrophic default by the United States through January 1, 2025, hailing it as a “big win” for the country. Critics say the agreement protects wealthy corporations and tax dodgers while imposing new cuts on key social programs and expanding work requirements for some recipients of food stamps. The legislation has also been called a “dirty deal” by climate activists because it rolls back environmental regulations and fast-tracks the approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline through West Virginia and Virginia, a pet project of powerful Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin. “The working class of this country was deeply harmed by this bill,” says investigative journalist David Sirota of The Lever. He also faults Democratic leaders for not raising the debt ceiling after the midterm elections, when the party still had control of Congress. “What you see is a picture of a party that wanted this outcome,” says Sirota.
