Heartbreaking, horrifying, infuriating. And the truth of what has long, long been needed to systemically and radically change about our country. Like millions of other Americans, I didn’t even think to question the privileges and plentiful resources that I blindly thought we had because America is “exceptional.” Right?
But then 9-11 happened and George Bush said we were “attacked for our freedoms” and I knew he was lying. But I had no idea why that horrifying day happened — and I had to find out.
My journey over the last 20 years of intense truth-seeking has illuminated the vastness of my ignorance, indoctrination, and illusions — and those of countless other Americans. We have 4% of the global population but consume 25-30% of the planet’s natural resources. This isn’t because we’ve “earned” it.
Again and again and again I come back to the vital need for us all to courageously and passionately seek the deeper truths that we’re oblivious to. Our ignorance makes us complicit with the powerful forces that cause untold and horrifying injustice, violence, suffering, destruction, and death in our country and worldwide.
