We know that the air we breathe is shared with the oaks and fir trees, that the water we drink pours down from floating clouds as rain before it comes into our cells. The glimpses of oneness awaken a natural compassion out of which we treat other parts of ourselves — all that is — wisely. We discover that we have the same last names as the mountains, the streams, the redwood trees.
