The Important Work of John Perkins... and Us All

Warm Greetings

Please go here to watch a short but powerful video about Corporatocracy:

On November 17th I was blessed with the opportunity to see John Perkins speak at Portland State University. This was my second time to see this author and activist, the first being at the Green Festival in April of 2008. It was incredibly heartening to see a range of ethnicity and age, from youth to elders in their 80's, in attendance. I took pages of notes as there is so much to integrate. I am continuously amazed with how little my formal education and the American media teach me. Knowing that, I am continuously drawn to educate and inform myself. Today I recognize that there is so much at stake in these times and that future generations will look back upon us to either deeply thank us or to wonder why we did not care enough to act now to make desperately needed changes for those who will follow.

John Perkins is one of so many powerful voices who is giving so much to reach out and affect change. John states that his mission is "to do everything I possibly can to create a sustainable, just, and peaceful world for my grandson, Grant. To accomplish that requires the creation of such a world for every child born on every inch of this planet. For the first time in history, we are all interconnected. We share the same crises, including climate change, overpopulation, species extinctions, diminishing resources, and rising prices for the things that are essential to our lives. And we all understand this; we are all communicating with each other, through cell phones and over the Internet. We know that there will be no homeland security until we recognize that the the entire world is our homeland."

John also shares that we all have passions and talents, that each of us has the potential to be a teacher and to inspire. He states that the opportunity is there every time we speak to anyone, purchase something (or choose not to), or send an email. We teach through our words and actions. John writes: "It all starts with recognizing your power. You initiate it by knowing that you have the ability to sit at the front of a bus, inspire a young person to stand up to a bully, and talk about the courage of our Founding Fathers and Mothers. Like every one of your personal heroes, you sometimes hesitate, falter, make mistakes, and learn from your errors. You too can change the world. Commit to honoring your passion and acknowledging your power. When you combine yours with the passions and talents of everyone else – miracles will happen."

John's website states that "John Perkins has lived four lives: as an economic hit man (EHM); as the CEO of a successful alternative energy company, who was rewarded for not disclosing his EHM past; as an expert on indigenous cultures and shamanism, a teacher and writer who used this expertise to promote ecology and sustainability while continuing to honor his vow of silence about his life as an EHM; and as a writer who, in telling the real-life story about his extraordinary dealings as an EHM, has exposed the world of international intrigue and corruption that is turning the American republic into a global empire despised by increasing numbers of people around the planet." - http://www.johnperkins.org/?page_id=2

We can't sell a model of 5% of the world's population using 25% of it's resources. America has experienced predatory capitalism for the past 30-40 years. Nearly half of the world is starving. This is a deviant form of capitalism and an imperialistic system. If we have an empire, who is the emperor? Big corporations. America has become a corporatocracy. If we are not informed about these things, how can we be a democracy?... Things are also changing tremendously. We have entered one of the most important periods in human history, the Time of Prophecies. We have the opportunity to lift ourselves to new levels of consciousness. This time was foretold over the past centuries around the world. Now it is up to us — you and me — to make it happen. What a wonderful gift!
