The Rights of Nature | Kat Houghton | TEDxAsheville
Peak into the dominant cultural consciousness that holds humans separate and above the rest of the natural world. Explore worldviews from diverse cultures and western science that help us question our beliefs about our place in the natural world. Discover the legal revolution giving rights to nature and changing our relationship to the beyond-human world. Kat is a psychologist who developed a deep understanding of human relationships through 15 years of working with over 900 families with autism. She now applies her experience in building relationships from the ground up to healing the rift between people, planet and profit. She founded and continues to run a for-profit company (ilumivu) that provides software to psychology and behavioral health researchers. She founded and runs a nonprofit (Community Roots) focused on accelerating the equitable transition to renewable energy and the rights of nature. And she works with a nonprofit (Rites of Passage Council) as an eco-therapist applying the healing power of nature for personal and cultural transformation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
