This image is heartbreaking, chilling, tragic beyond words. And it shines bright light on the pervasive and unaddressed trauma ― the pain and projections, the fear and anger, the hatred and delusions ― which is deeply embedded in American culture.
I’ve recently been listening to Jeff Sharlet giving multiple excellent interviews and just purchased his latest book The Undertow, which I know will be excellent and illuminating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR5yH6sf31k. First I need to get through the other excellent book that I'm reading now — Caste by Isabel Wilkerson: https://www.nationalbook.org/books/caste-the-origins-of-our-discontents/. I highly recommend both of these books.
