Overwhelmed: Inside Oregon's ICUs | 'We see no end' | Full special report

This is a painful, but deeply important and excellent program. It is my belief that we all need to have these heartbreaking experiences of witnessing, in whatever ways that we can, the inside of the ICUs whose healthcare providers are working to save the lives of those stricken with Covid-19. We need to hear, see, and understand in our hearts their overwhelm and the devastating and unnecessary loss of lives that these doctors and nurses and other healthcare workers are faced with day in and day out. The next step is to then channel our heartbreak into ongoing actions doing everything humanly possible to protect ourselves and each other. This includes masking, being vaccinated, social distancing, tracking reputable resources of information and sharing what we are learning, exposing dangerous disinformation while also refraining from name calling and other disrespectful behavior, and standing in consistent and strong caring protection of ourselves and others. May we all embody a profound commitment to truth, to caring, and to acting on behalf of the highest good for us all. This is my deep prayer. 🙏 Molly

Oregon hospitals are at the breaking point, overwhelmed with COVID patients. KGW reporters Pat Dooris and Christine Pitawanich were granted rare access inside intensive care units at OHSU Hospital in Portland and St. Charles Medical Center in Bend to speak with doctors and nurses on the front lines of the fight against COVID.

Medical professionals are tired and frustrated. They're also angry that almost all of their sickest patients are unvaccinated, showing how this is a preventable tragedy.
