McCain - A Final Post On This Candidate & His Record

Warmest Greetings

As you all know, Ken and I are obviously among the millions who are OFFO's -- Old Farts For Obama. Among the numerous reasons that I am an Obama supporter is how Barack has taken the high road again and again and again, refusing to partake in drawing attention to the negative record of his opponent in so many areas. Sometimes I have felt like he has done this to a fault, not bringing up subjects like Keating Five, and even professing such things as McCain's positive record on standing up to torture. Yet, because I research and listen, I am aware that McCain has tragically changed his stance on torture and other subjects where one would think he would stand in strong opposition. The below is just a tiny glimpse of what is out there on a few of the important issues which affect us all, a matter of record for anyone who may be so moved to investigate or share with others. I've excluded McCain's record on the economy after already doing numerous related posts.

I believe this will be the last such post for me to do of this nature. It is my deepest hope that in two days we will be shifting gears in this nation from a very narcissistic, dark leadership to one that will truly serve the needs of Americans and, because we are all connected, also those of others beyond our borders. I dream of a leadership that will role model and inspire the best in all of us -- one that is rooted in integrity rather corruption, diplomacy rather than violence, respect rather than a pillaging of the Constitution, saving rather than plundering the environment, passionately supporting the development of alternative resources rather than a "drill-drill-drill" mentality, truth-telling rather than bearing false witness, inclusivity rather than polarization, generosity rather than greed, humility rather than arrogance, sincerity rather than hypocrisy, compassion rather than judgement, hope rather than fear, and an attitude of we-we-we rather than me-me-me. May we envision in our leadership and in ourselves an expansion of spiritual values and actions which are rooted in truth, love, and caring for all. Peace ~ Molly

There are also countless articles and documentation of McCain's record on torture. This is a tiny glimpse:

He may claim to be green, but McCain's environmental record is every bit as dirty as that of Sen. James "global warming is a hoax" Inhofe.

Sept. 20, 2008 Few politicians in history have more successfully sold a phony image about caring for the environment than Sen. John McCain. His deceptions and distortions and lies would fill a book.

Forwarded to me from Doris "Granny D" Haddock's website: Dear Friends - Doris "Granny D" Haddock has many friends on both sides of the political aisle, as do I. Doris endorses Sen. Barack Obama for the Presidency, even though she walked 3,200 miles across the US to drum-up support for Sen. McCain's campaign finance reform bill. During that effort, she and I had occasion to work with Sen. McCain. The McCain article run by Rolling Stone, linked below, is worth reading because it is the truth.Yours, Dennis Burke ... "As we look deeper for the soul of capitalism, we find that, in the terms of ordinary human existence, American capitalism doesn't appear to have one. In the economic sphere, efficiency trumps community. Maximizing returns comes before family or personal loyalty. What seems priceless in one realm may be wasted or even destroyed by the other." ~ William Greider

"Neolithic art, and even more so the more developed Minoan art, seems to express a view in which the primary function of the mysterious powers governing the universe is not to exact obedience, punish, and destroy but rather to give." ~ Riane Eisler

"To embrace a turning point is to see someone or something differently and then to take action on what you have seen... These moments, where insight and action intersect, are the training ground for living a life of personal courage." ~ Puanani Burgess
